Our little ladybug has been home for 13 months now and I figured it is about time for an update. Our precious girl has changed so much and in so many ways over the past year. It’s hard to believe that she is the same baby that was placed in our arms that day! We have loved getting to know her and love her as she has found her place in our family.
She came to us weighing almost 17 pounds and she has now finally passed the 20 pound mark. We definitely had some eating issues when we came home and had to consult a nutritionist for help. It took several months but I think we can safely say she is now a good eater. She eats most anything put in front of her and strangely enough, the high chair is one of her favorite places to be. She feels safe there and is happy to sit in the middle of the kitchen while I am cooking or cleaning around her.
The ladybug still has play therapy once a week and physical therapy every other week. She will be re-evaluated in May after her birthday and we are praying that she will be able to reach her milestones. She has accomplished kicking a ball, but still has to learn to walk up steps and jump off the floor with two feet. I’m not too sure if she will ever get the last one or not. Some days I feel she still has miles to go, and then I take a look back at how far she has come, and am amazed at the progress she has made. These days she is starting to run and is working hard to keep up with Maia. She loves her big sister and most days that is her motivating factor for progress.
One of the biggest changes in our girl lately is her speech. Each day we are hearing new words and she is able to communicate with us more. She is even putting three and four words together. She does repeat a good many words (like a parrot) but she is also using her own words and ideas for things she wants or needs. Some of my favorites right now are: “I itch”, “No Roxy, stop”, “Where Maia go” and “I wuv you too”. We love our girl so much and sometimes it is hard to believe that she is really here. After that long long wait, we thought these days would never come. She still has some progress to make in several areas and she is still only content with those people she knows well; but she has come so far. We can’t wait to see what the days ahead will hold for our sweet girl. She will always be our baby girl and the gift that God gave to our family. We are beyond blessed.
