We are in full preparation mode.
And I can’t believe that this time next week, we will be in the air on our way! Finally!!
Not only am I trying to get 5 people packed and ready, I am preparing for the 2 that are being left behind. Countdown calendars, small daily surprises and a countdown link chain are some things I have made to help the little girls understand how long we will be gone. Right now they are as excited as everyone else. But, I am not sure how long that will last after we walk out the door and are gone for the first week……..
NFL Football is big at our house. And that season is here. Unfortunately, our house is split three ways by loyalty to three different teams. Tonight two of those teams played each other. Watching the Steelers play the Colts was just not as enjoyable as it should have been……. it is “like father, like son” when it comes to competition.
Things are crazy busy around here these days. Our church’s consignment sale is this week and I will be involved in that for the next three days. As soon as that is over, I am going to get serious about packing. Packing for six people is a little different than packing for three. Along with the packing, I still need to talk/meet with school teachers, finish a little paperwork, finalize in-China travel plans, make some appointments after we get back, finish some things I am making for the two littles, finalize some house cleaning I started, ect. Typing it all out makes it seem overwhelming, so I’ll just stop there.
Our plane tickets arrived in the mail and that made it all start to seem real. We have a countdown chart in our kitchen and the current count is 15 days till we leave!!! We fly out very EARLY on Friday morning October the 7th, get our boy on October 10th, and then return home on Friday night October 21st. The poor little guy has no idea what he is about to arrive into. (: I just can’t wait to finally get my hands on that precious person we have been looking at since January.
Off to start my day……….
God answered prayers and we now know when we will be traveling. Our Consulate appointment is scheduled for October 17th at 8:30 am. We won’t be able to tour Beijing at the beginning of the trip because of the National Day holiday so we will have to do that at the end. We will be leaving on Saturday October 8th and returning home on Friday October 21st. We will finally meet our little guy on Monday October 10th!!! It won’t be a day too soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The SWI also sent new pictures to Living Hope today. We weren’t expecting that so it was a nice surprise. He doesn’t look quite as “clean” and “smiley” as the last pictures we got, but soon enough he will be ours and hopefully we can see that precious smile every day.
I’m going to be honest, I’m a little sad. Our boy was sent back to the orphanage last week. He has lived with the same foster family for the last 4 years. He has known nothing but this family for as long as he can remember. He speaks Cantonese. The SWI speaks Mandarin. I can only imagine how confused he must be. I wonder if he thinks we aren’t coming? I wonder if they have even told him we are coming? We have sent two packages to him, but don’t know for sure that he received them. We were told that they were given to him and that he knows he has a new family, but we haven’t seen any pictures to show that. Our agency called yesterday to request that he stay with his foster family until we come and they were told that he had already been sent back.
And, we still don’t have firm travel dates. Our agency secured us a Consulate appointment but are trying to see if they can get an earlier date. They are willing to help us keep from traveling during the Trade Fair. The hotels in Guangzhou during that time are high, and since we will need two rooms and will be staying there most of the trip, we would like to avoid that if at all possible. We hope to know something for sure in a couple of days.
So, we wait. Some more. I am just ready to go!!!! I want to bring my boy home!!! Will you please pray that God will help us straighten out these last details? Will you pray that our little guy will be comforted in the SWI, a place that he has never known? And pray that his heart will be prepared for his new family as ours is being prepared for his ……
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
130 people + dirt + pond water + messy games = the 3rd Annual Mud Bowl. We had a great time playing mud football, volleyball, corn hole, swimming in the pond, eating hot dogs and hamburgers and sliding down the 100 ft water slide. It’s amazing what middle schoolers will do for fun……. Our middle school pastor pulled off another great event this year and we were happy to host the fun at our house.
