Camden made some big improvements this evening. Once he was “untied” from the chest tube and the IV, he was free to move around. While we waited for company to come, he made a snowman craft with some nice ladies who were volunteering. Once Jeff, Maia and Aliana showed up, he came to life. They are probably his best course of therapy. He doesn’t want them to get a step ahead of him, so he tried his best to keep up with them. They spent the evening blowing bubbles (respiratory therapy), making crafts, eating snacks, riding the wagons and toy cars up and down the halls, and reading books. Maia even asked if she could spend the night. He was sad to see them leave and asked to go home too. I tried my best to explain that maybe tomorrow we can go back to our house and he can sleep in Camden’s bed. Some things are still hard to communicate with my lack of Chinese.
Whewwww!!! What a relief to have that out! It sure wasn’t a lot of fun. If his chest x-rays come back clear tonight and tomorrow morning, then he can possibly go home tomorrow. He has to pick up a little in the eating and drinking category but we are going to work very hard on that for the rest of the day. Thanks to all of you who are praying for us.
After a VERY long roller coaster day yesterday, we finally saw our boy in the afternoon. It was a big relief to see his precious face after anxiously waiting for so long. The surgery took a lot longer than expected and we waited for over 7 hours. His surgeon ran into some unexpected issues related to an infection he had sometime in his life. But, he was able to complete what he needed to do and the lobe of his lung was removed. Yesterday afternoon and last night were a little rough but we’re hoping today is better. He has a chest tube and is in a lot of pain. He also is angry at Jeff and I and isn’t acknowledging us very much. I knew this was a possibility but it’s still painful to watch. Please pray that we see a change today and our precious boy will find some relief.
We are praising God for the prayers He answered in keeping Camden safe and for guiding the doctors as they worked. He is faithful!

We’re headed to surgery again this morning very early. Camden will be having a lobectomy to remove the lobe of his lung that contains cysts that are growing. All of his doctors and his surgeon feel that this is the best decision for him and we trust their knowledge. We have faith that the God who created him and “knew him while he was being formed in his mother’s womb” will protect him and heal him during the next few hours and days.
We would love to have your prayers. I’ll give an update as soon as I can.
Camden had his first surgery yesterday and did great! He had extensive dental work that needed to be done and it was best to have it done under general anesthesia. He never cried once the whole time we were at the hospital. He was a little groggy and quiet when he woke up, but was back to his old normal self by the afternoon. His teeth look beautiful and he’s very proud of them.
We are praying that his next surgery on Dec. 12th goes as smoothly as this. It will be more complicated and he will be spending a couple of days in the hospital, but hopefully he will be the same rock star he was yesterday. He is one amazing little boy.
After waiting one thousand five hundred nine days, on Dec 2nd, 2009 we FINALLY saw the face of our Aliana Grace. The process of her adoption was the beginning of our international adoption path. Although she wasn’t the first one home, she was the seed of hope planted in our hearts that we knew would be worth that long horrible wait.
That cold rainy day couldn’t dampen the excitement of opening the email and seeing her face for the first time. Yes, she’s whiny and clingy these days, but those eyes and that set of perfect lips were worth every single day we waited!
Aliana Grace JiuLi, you were a Promise kept by God.
And here a couple of pictures from last year…… She and Sarah Mei (her Fu sister)have changed so much in just a year’s time.
